It is also known as West Indian jasmine, Indian rose, Flame of the Woods, and Jungle Flame, which is the national flower of Suriname. It’s a member of the Rubiaceae family, which includes Coffee, Gardenia, Firecracker Vine, and Pentas. Ixora coccinea flowers are 4-lobe star-shaped and come in a variety of colors, including yellow-gold, orange, pink, white, and burgundy-red.
Ixora coccinea leaves are oblong, glossy, and leathery, and can be 1.5 to 7 inches long. Young leaves are bronzy in color but eventually turn a dark green. The leaves are carried in opposite pairs on the stems, and the entire margins are present. Ixora coccinea is a dense, multi-branched evergreen shrub. They can grow up to 1 meter tall.
